Sources for Unit #2
In my journey to locate primary sources for my "Polar Bear" rhetorical case study, I found the research overview on e-college to be extremely helpful. Lexis Nexis Congressional Publications had two extremely relevant and rather current sources from credible, educated people. They were both published within this year. I found two other sources from the Lexis Nexis Academic database. One is a humorous look at Palin, Polar Bears, and Alaska. The other is a news article from Alaska that deals with a first hand account of the environmental changes and Polar Bears. I think that all of these will be extremely useful in composing a case study.

Topic for Unit #2
For my topic, I have chosen to follow what I brainstormed in class: the Environment. I narrowed the topic down to Endangered Species, and more specifically: Polar Bears. Those who would have experience in this subject area would be Animal Rights Activists, Environmental Protection Agencies, even Hunters. Whenever we hear about a specific animal falling onto the Endangered Species List, almost all liberals and many conservatives voice their concern and desire to save that race of animal. With Global Warming arguments being on the rise, the threat to all forms of life becomes a major concern for the American people. Global Warming's ideas stem from the polar ice caps melting and the polar bears losing their natural habitat. The fear is that they will die out. The primary sources that I could find would be news articles, environmental statistics, interviews, activists protests, and published academic sources.

Argument with Humor
No Son, You Can’t Think Anymore, President Obama Said So.
America. The land of the free and the home of the brave. Where any man, woman, and child has a right to speak their minds and experience new things. Where colleges, universities, and high schools (both private and public) offer educational courses that will help them survive in the real world; and classes that will stimulate their artistic, musical, and philosophical talents. Good riddance.
Democratic presidential candidate, Barack Obama has spent a good portion of his campaign speaking about the decline in the United States Educational System. In a recent interview, Obama claimed: “America used to be in the forefront of the educational world, now we are falling behind India and China.” He went on to describe his magical 18 million dollar plan that will solve all the problems in his first four-year term. With less money than what it takes to run one school district for one semester, Obama will correct all the problems with our nation’s educational system. My dear readers, you are not mistaken. Here is proof that miracles really DO happen.
Obama stated, “China and India are focusing on the important subjects: Math, Technology, Science; these are the areas of learning we should be focusing on and nothing else.”
Well, gosh dern it, President Obama. I learned to school to be edumacated and now I can wrote theoretical physics with me right hand, and the pathagorean theory with the other ‘un. Good plan, Senator Obama. Now we can be the leading force of the scientific community and be completely clueless as to how to spell “community.”
Obama went on to say: “We can no longer risk our children’s future with such subjects as music and art. Medicine and engineering will do much better in the long run.”
Oh, I see. Now we will start the pre-med program in the elementary schools; we’ll just put the cadavers in the old music rooms. Sounds to me like a good plan. Who needs music when you have a fresh corpse to autopsy? However, I am surprised at Senator Obama. He never once mentioned politics as a good area of education for the children. Wouldn’t a background in Political Science be a good choice as well? No? Alright, we’ll just be a nation of brilliant bio-chemists who can’t even form a compound sentence. I’m sure the country’s political system can run on its own.
We have much to look forward to in our nation’s higher education system. In the universities of our nations, there won’t be any more music majors, or art majors. The students will discuss particle mobilizations instead of arguing philosophy. Parties will involve drinking games like: “Name that Formula,” or “Explain How to Assemble a Hard-Drive in Under Thirty-Seconds.” Sounds like a real riot.
But don’t be afraid, my readers. We elect these people to be the leaders of our nation. It’s very rare that they don’t follow through with their promises. Besides, Senator Obama has a solid plan with more than enough funding to fix the educational system. How could it possibly fail when it gets rid of all those pesky artsy subjects? We no longer have to be a patriotic nation of free thinkers; able to choose our own destiny and follow it however we please. No, no, now the government can choose what we can learn and do. Just like Karl Marx intended.
